Add Products, Set Inventory, and Availability.
There are two ways in which products can be added to your account, both individually and in bulk. Please follow the directions below for the process that suits you best:
To start, click the My Store tab on the navigation pane. Then click the ALL PRODUCTS tab.
Option One: Add Products Individually
- Click the All Products Tab
- Click the Add Product button
General
- Upload a product picture (200 x 200 pixels and less than 1 MB) by clicking the camera icon and selecting a photo from your computer or mobile device. You can always do this later by clicking Edit Product.
-
- If you don't have product photos ready https://unsplash.com/ has great free photos!
- If your picture uploads sideways, see How to fix product pictures that upload with the wrong orientation.
- By default, some mobile devices capture images using the HEIC file format, which is a compressed version of the HEIF (high efficient image format). For example, iOS devices running versions 11 or later. The HEIC or HEIF file formats are not compatible with Local Line. Before you capture images using your iOS device, set the default image file type to PNG or JPEG. Click here for instructions. There are also various ways you can convert a HEIC image after it's captured, like using this online tool.
-
- Once you've selected the image, click Open to save
- You can also take a picture and upload it from your mobile device by clicking on the photo icon
- You can also take a picture and upload it from your mobile device by clicking on the photo icon
- Assign product # (Optional)
- Enter the Name of product
- Add Price per count and unit [ie. if you're selling carrots at $2/lb, enter $2 (price) per 1 (count) lb (unit).]
Once you save the product you have created (ie, you want to change lb. to bag), you cannot edit the unit afterward, you will need to add a new product. - Select the box beside Taxable if product is taxable
- Select a Category to assign the product to (this can be done at a later time when you have created categories)
- Add a description of your product (the more information customers have, the better!)
- Manually assign these products to your catalog: Assign Products to a Catalog
Inventory
Local Line offers both Basic Inventory and Advanced Inventory. The steps below outline Basic Inventory, click here to learn more about Advanced Inventory.
Note: If you do not wish to Track Inventory, deselect this field by clicking the green checkmark.
- Enter your available product inventory in Inventory Count
- We'll send you a notification when your inventory gets low so you can re-stock. Just enter the number in the Notify me when I get low field.
Availability
Enable Seasonality
If your product is only available for specific seasons or time frames, you can indicate that time frame using the calendar picker once turned on. Your customers will not be able to purchase the product outside the specified window of time.
Visibility
Remove products from your available products by switching the toggle to “Off.” It will remain in the catalogs you've added it to, but will not be visible to customers or available for purchase.
If turned off, this item will look grey in colour.
Note: deleting a product will cause it to be removed from all previous order invoices, instead simply turn off the visibility of the product to remove it from your storefront and from your customer's view.
Edit Products
1. Click Edit beside the product to edit the description, photo, inventory, visibility, or seasonality.
Best Practice: As a best practice and to preserve the accuracy of your historical data, don't edit existing product details. If a product requires a change, disable its visibility and add a new product with the updated details. Likewise, don't delete a product if you no longer wish it to display on your storefront. Instead, just unassign it from a catalog or disable its visibility.
Option Two: Add Products in Bulk
Add Products via Downloadable Template
- Click the All Products Tab
- Click Download/Upload Products button, opposite arrows icon
- Download Product Template and open on your desktop in Excel
- Fill in Product Template with product information
- Save the template to your desktop
- The file must be saved in Excel .xlsx format.
- If you are using Numbers on macOS, you must export the file to .xlsx by going to the File menu and clicking Export to...Excel. Then, save the file.
- Back in Local Line, click the Choose File button
- Select completed template file from desktop
- Click the Open button
- Click the Upload button to bulk add products in one upload.
- Manually add these products to your catalog: Assign Supplier Products to a Catalog
Note: Any upload issues will be explained in a window, in this case you would make changes to template file from desktop, save and re-upload.
Upload Product Photos
- Click the Edit button beside the product
- Click the picture icon and select the photo from your computer or mobile device
- Click the Open button
- You can also take a picture from your mobile phone by clicking the camera icon
-
- If your picture uploads sideways, see How to fix product pictures that upload with the wrong orientation.
Turn off Product Photos
- Click Edit Account, top right corner of the screen
- Switch the Product Pictures toggle to Off
Note: Adding a picture and description may seem irrelevant but it’s proven that pictures and descriptions influence decisions when purchasing online.
NOTE: Once your products are added, it's always recommended to periodically download your product list, especially when you make a large number of changes.
