Connecting Local Line to other apps

Connect your Local Line account to other apps like Quickbooks, Mailchimp or social apps to enhance your workflows.

Local Line can now be integrated with some of your favourite apps to automate workflows and add new functionality.

This means you’ll be able to save time on manual entry by automating the flow of information from Local Line to supported apps. For example, you could connect your Local Line account to QuickBooks so that when you receive an order, it automatically creates a new invoice in QuickBooks.

This is possible by using a service called Zapier (rhymes with “happier”!). Zapier acts as the “glue” between Local Line and your favourite apps, and lets you create and share “zaps” which are combinations of triggers and actions that can automatically perform tasks to save you time and help you work smarter!

Here are some examples of the apps you can connect Local Line with through Zapier:

Accounting

    • QuickBooks Online
    • Xero
    • Wave
    • FreshBooks

Logistics

    • ShipStation

Marketing

    • Mailchimp

Social Media

    • Facebook
    • Instagram
    • Twitter

Spreadsheets

    • Google Sheets
    • Excel

    Requirements

In order to get started, you’ll first need a Local Line account, so if you haven’t created one yet, head to our signup page and create a new trial account: https://localline.ca/signup.

Next, you’ll need to create an account with Zapier https://zapier.com/sign-up/.

See Zapier's knowledge base for more detailed instructions on setting up your account. For additional Zapier support, visit their community. You can also install the Zapier Chrome extension which makes building and editing Zaps easier, and also makes suggestions for Zaps you might find helpful based on your web activity.

Zapier has several pricing plans available depending on how many tasks you need to automate every month and which apps you want to integrate with. The free plan has enough to get you started, and you can upgrade at any time as you grow.

    See Zapier's pricing plans.

    Pre-built Integrations

The following pre-built integration templates are available now:

    Accounting

    • Local Line --> Quickbooks Online - When a new order is generated in your Local Line account, the customer is found or created and an invoice is created in Quickbooks Online. This integration requires a paid Zapier plan. This template includes settings for US taxes only at the moment, a second one better suited for Canadian sellers with instructions on how to set up the tax codes in the zap will be available soon.
      • Notes: You will need to manually add any delivery/pickup fees to the QuickBooks invoice after it is created.

    • Local Line Update Invoice -> QuickBooks Online Update Invoice - When an order is changed in Local Line, find and update the corresponding invoice in QuickBooks Online. Similar to the "new order" zap above, this zap requires a paid Zapier plan, and also has tax code settings suitable for US sellers.
      • Note: You will need to manually adjust shipping/delivery fees as they are not sent to QuickBooks
    • Local Line --> Freshbooks - When a new order is generated in your Local Line account, the customer is found or created and an invoice is created in Freshbooks. This integration requires a paid Zapier plan.
      • Note: You will need to manually add any delivery/pickup fees to the Freshbooks invoice after it is created.

    Marketing

    • Local Line --> Mailchimp - When you add a customer in your Local Line account, a subscriber is created in Mailchimp.
      • If you want the subscriber to be added immediately, disable the "Double Opt-in" setting when mapping the "Action" fields in Zapier. This means that an email will not be sent to your buyer for them to approve before they are added as a subscriber in Mailchimp.
    • Local Line --> Mailchimp - When you update a customer in your Local Line account, the corresponding subscriber in Mailchimp is updated.

    Social media

    • Local Line --> Facebook - When you add a new product to your Local Line account, automatically create a new post on the connected Facebook page that includes the product name, description, photo, and a link to the product in your storefront.
      • Make sure the Facebook page you want to post to already exists
      • Be careful not to leave this zap enabled if you are adding products in bulk! Best used when you are infrequently adding new products to engage your audience and invite them to come back
    • Local Line --> Twitter - When you add a new product in your Local Line account, automatically post a tweet to Twitter that includes the product name and description, and a link to the product. Note: Product photo is not included.

    Spreadsheets

    • Local Line --> Google Sheets - When a product is updated in your Local Line account, the changes are tracked automatically in a Google Sheet. This includes inventory level changes when a product is sold, so can be a great way to track sales over time. For best results, create a Google Sheet in advance with a column for each product property you want to keep track of (e.g. Name, Description, Price, Quantity). Then when adding the Zap to your account, you can choose to map the product fields to the columns in your Sheet.

    Logistics

    • Local Line Order -> Google Sheets - When a new order is created in your Local Line account, this zap uses a filter to only process Delivery orders, and then creates a row in a specially formatted Google Sheet and a Google Sheet add-on called Mapping Sheets to build a map of the delivery locations. Note: Because this zap uses multiple steps, a paid Zapier account is required. The free version of Mapping Sheets can process up to 50 locations per map. A paid Mapping Sheets subscription is required for more locations, and to add routing support.

More templates will be added over time.

After you have added a template to your Zapier account, you just need to connect the zap to Local Line and to the other app you want to use (e.g. Facebook), and you’re ready to go!
